Man Busted With Kids In Car During Fifth DUI Gets Prison Time

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A Lakewood man busted for his fifth driving while under the influence in Lake in the Hills has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
Daniel R. Meyers was found guilty in June following a two-day bench trial of aggravated driving while under the influence, driving under the influence, two counts of child endangerment, driving while license revoked, speeding 26 to 34 mph over the limit and improper lane usage, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.
Evidence presented at the trial showed Meyers was driving with two teen passengers in his vehicle after leaving Bistro Wasabi in Lake in the Hills at about 10:30 p.m. on April 28, 2023, according to the news release. An officer pulled him over of spotting his erratic driving, including crossing over lane dividers and fog lines, as well as speeding.

Officers also determined Meyers’ driving privileges had been revoked. He refused to perform any field sobriety tests but was arrested based on physical observations made by officers while on scene.
He was arrested for DUI/OWI in January 1993 in DuPage County, August 1998 in McHenry County, June 2017 in McHenry County and August 2019 in Lake County. He faced a term of between four and fifteen years for this fifth conviction, which is a Class 1 felony.
