Man Flown To Hospital After Motorcycle Crash In Algonquin

The motorcycle crashed on the northbound ramp to Route 31 from Algonquin Road. A 32-year-old Lake in the Hill man was seriously injured.

A 32-year-old man was flown to the hospital after suffering a severe injury following a crash on Route 31 in Algonquin on Saturday, police said.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded around 6:44 p.m. Saturday to the area of Route 31 and Algonquin Road for a vehicle crash with injuries. Algonquin Police Department Deputy Chief Ryan Markham told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the incident involved a single vehicle.

A 2002 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling on the northbound ramp to Route 31 from Algonquin Road.

The driver, a 32-year-old Lake in the Hills man, lost control of the motorcycle while driving on the ramp. Markham said the Suzuki struck a sign pole and the operator suffered a severe arm injury.

A nurse, who was passing by, stopped to aid the injured driver.

The nurse applied a makeshift tourniquet to control the bleeding until paramedics arrived, Markham said.

The motorcyclist was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley by ambulance.

He was then transported by a Superior Air Med helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Markham said he did not have a status update on the man’s condition.

The roadway was shut down for approximately one hour while the Algonquin Police Department investigated.
