Woman Sexually Assaulted By Boyfriend, Held Against Her Will: Police

KANE COUNTY, IL — A 32-year-old Algonquin man faces sexual assault and unlawful restraint charges for allegations he used a knife to hold his girlfriend against her will in a bedroom for five hours and did not allow her to leave.
Patricio Salas, of Algonquin, was taken into custody Saturday and authorities in Kane County announced Tuesday that upgraded sexual assault charges had been filed against Salas.

Salas is accused of using a knife to prevent the woman from leaving a bedroom for about five hours and also took a phone away from her when she tried to call 911, Amy Johnson, public information officer for the Kane County Sheriff's Office, told Patch.
The woman was eventually able to escape after she texted her brother-in-law the word, "help," and he came to the home, confronted Salas and the two got into a fight, police said.

Police responded to the home in the 400 block of Natoma Trail in unincorporated Algonquin Township at about 6:25 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, Salas had fled the scene. Police found him a short time later in his vehicle, which he had crashed not far from the home.
He sustained injuries and was treated before being taken into the custody.
The girlfriend sustained visible injuries, but authorities did not specify what type of injuries or the severity. She did receive medical attention, according to the news release.
The woman sustained superficial cuts and scrapes to her head and neck along with excessive bruising along her torso and head, Johnson said. She has since been released from the hospital and her condition is stable.
Salas has been charged with aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated criminal sexual assault acts in a manner that threatens the life to the victim and aggravated domestic battery -strangle, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.
Salas and the woman had been dating for two to three months, and authorities have no knowledge of any similar reports of domestic incidents filed against the couple, Johnson said.
