Search Efforts Called Off For Person Initially Reported Missing In Fox River: Police

Authorities believe the initial report "may have been based on a mistaken observation," according to authorities.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Emergency crews have stopped the search for a person who was reported missing, and who as possibly in the Fox River, according to authorities.

It is believed an initial report made to authorities "may have been based on a mistaken observation," according to a post on the Carpentersville Police Department Facebook page.

The Carpentersville fire and police departments initially responded to the area of Kings and Williams roads at about 6:05 p.m. Tuesday where a search began of the area. On Wednesday, authorities announced search teams had stopped "further rescue and recovery efforts regarding the reported person missing in the water," according to the Facebook page.

"No person was found, and the initial report could not be substantiated and may have been based on a mistaken observation," according to the Facebook page.
