Submission by IDOT

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that a traffic stage change will take place on Main Street (Illinois 31) over the Edgewood Ravine, south of Illinois 62, in Algonquin, beginning, weather permitting, Thursday, July 21.

The work is part of an ongoing project to make safety improvements and repairs to the bridge that carries Main Street over the Edgewood Ravine.

In the next stage of construction, traffic on Main Street will be reduced to one lane with a temporary traffic signal directing traffic to pass in alternating directions. A full closure will take place on Beach drive with a posted detour to use Edgewood Road.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
