Coronavirus Cases Creep Up In Alsip, Plummet In Crestwood

Just under half of Alsip residents have received both vaccine doses, while exactly half of Crestwood residents have.

ALSIP-CRESTWOOD, IL — According to data released Wednesday from the Cook County Department of Public Health, confirmed COVID-19 cases rose 6% in Alsip over the past two weeks, despite an overall downward trend in the state and the county. Crestwood, however, has seen a dramatic 55% change in confirmed cases over the past 14 days.

Weekly counts and rates are updated each Wednesday, and represent cases reported the previous Sunday through Saturday.

Alsip currently has 2,456 confirmed cases, with 25 cases reported last week. This makes for a weekly case rate of 130 per 100,000 people. Despite a small uptick in cases over the past week, they have begun to decline following a summer surge and late August peak. Alsip cases are just under the suburban Cook County average.

Crestwood is reporting 1,376 confirmed cases, with just 9 cases reported last week. Crestwood’s weekly case rate is 82 per 100,000 people. Crestwood has typically been at or above suburban Cook County averages, but recently its case rate is declining more sharply.

11,768 Alsip residents, or 61% of the whole population, have received at least one vaccine dose. 9,403 residents, or 48.8% of the total population, have received both doses.

6,628 Crestwood residents, or 60.5% of the population, have received at least one vaccine dose, and 5,492 residents, or 50.2% of the entire population, have received both doses.

In suburban Cook County, there have been 280,324 confirmed cases and 4,700 deaths as of Oct. 1. The weekly case rate is 111 per 100,000 people, and there has been a 2.4% test positivity last week.
