MIDLOTHIAN, IL — The family of a Midlothian man who was killed in a horrific crash in Oak Lawn last week is trying to raise money to send his body back to Venezuela so he can be buried next to his mother.
Eglin Manuel Castro Alvarez, 27, died early Jan. 7 when police said another driver traveling at a high speed blew a red light and smashed into Castro Alvarez’s vehicle, at the intersection of Cicero Avenue and Southwest Highway. The Midlothian man had just picked his daughter up from the babysitter before the crash. The 7-year-old girl suffered multiple fractures and is hospitalized at Comer Children’s Hospital.
The 19-year-old driver of the other vehicle is facing reckless homicide and DUI charges.
