Warming Centers Will Be Open In Alsip-Crestwood During Big Chill

A cold risk advisory is in effect from Feb. 16 to Feb. 18. Here's where you can access local warming centers in the Alsip-Crestwood area.

ALSIP-CRESTWOOD, IL — The National Weather Service has issued an elevated cold risk advisory throughout the week, with early morning subzero wind chills between 10 below and 25 below zero.

The frigid weather will arrive on Sunday night, with the coldest conditions continuing through Tuesday morning, the weather service said. A limited elevated cold risk is expected throughout the rest of the week. Snow is also expected Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Check on your elderly neighbors and if you see someone struggling in the cold on the street, call 911.

The following warming centers will be open in the Alsip-Crestwood area if you need to get out of the cold, or just want to stop burning money in your furnace for a few hours. Monday, Feb. 16, is the federal Presidents Day holiday, so we recommend calling ahead to check to make sure they’re open.

Worth Township Center
11601 S. Pulaski Road, Alsip
Closed Monday for Presidents Day,
but will reopen 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Crestwood Recreation and Wellness Center
5331 W. 135th St., Crestwood
Will be available during regular business hours as
a warming center, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday though Thursday,
5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
The CRWC is open Presidents Day.
Call 911 if you need assistance in the cold.

Andrew Biela Senior Center
4545 Midlothian Turnpike, Crestwood
Closed Monday for Presidents Day.
The senior center will be available as
a warming center during regular
business hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
Tuesday through Friday.
Call 911 if you need assistance in the cold.

Crestwood Public Library
4955 W. 135th St.
Open MLK Day, it’s Messy Monday.
Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library
11960 S. Pulaski Road, Alsip
Open Presidents Day.
Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Palos Park Metra Station
123rd Street and 82nd Avenue
Will be open 24/7 for the duration of frigid temperatures that are expected to linger in the area through Wednesday. The train station will be staffed by
Palos Park police officers during off hours if necessary.
Palos Park PD are also conducting senior well-being checks.

Cook County Warming Centers

Cook County warming centers will provide water and snacks, as well as access to restrooms. Residents can bring pets in cages or carriers. If you do not have a cage or carrier, there will be a limited number available at each courthouse location. Some locations may be closed Monday for the federal Presidents Day holiday.
