3 Killed When Car Hits Bridge Support Column On I-290: Police

ITASCA, IL — Three people were killed late Wednesday night when a car they were driving in struck a bridge support column on Interstate 290 at I-355 near Itasca in DuPage County. Illinois State Police said the single-car crash shut down all westbound lanes of I-290 for nearly five hours.

Multiple outlets are reporting that at least one child is among those killed when the car struck the bridge support and burst into flames.

According to police, the car was traveling westbound on I-290 at around 11:40 p.m. when it lost control and struck the bridge support column. All three occupants of the car were pronounced dead at the scene.
