5 Arlington Heights Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — If you’re like many of your Arlington Heights neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Arlington Heights area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. Kay's Animal Shelter, 2705 North Arlington Heights Road, a not-for-profit organization that first opened in 1953 in Morton Grove. Moved to Arlington Heights in 1962. Rescues and find loving homes for pets.
  2. Shelter, Inc., 1616 N Arlington Heights Road, has been placing children and adolescents in volunteer foster homes since 1975.
  3. Wheeling Township Food Pantry, 1616 N. Arlington Heights Road, a list of needed items can be found here.
  4. Hands On Suburban Chicago, 2121 S. Goebbert, partners with nonprofits, schools, and government bodies to provide services to vulnerable populations, including victims of violence, the specially-able, veterans, older adults, youth, and those needing food, shelter, mental health services, and other vital assistance.
  5. Community Threads, 205 W. Rand Road, through Home of the Sparrow, with a mission to reduce the prevalence of homelessness among women, children, families, and individuals through creative strategies and community partnerships that result in lasting self-sufficiency.
