Additional Arlington Heights Students Named 2025 National Merit Scholarship Winners

This is the last group of National Merit Scholar designees to be announced this year by National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced Monday nearly 800 additional winners of National Merit Scholarships, including two students from Arlington Heights. The scholarships are financed by colleges and universities.

The following Merit Scholar designees join more than 2,900 other college-sponsored award recipients who were announced in June:

  • Aidan William McLeod, St. Viator High School (Arlington Heights), is a recipient of the National Merit University of Alabama scholarship. His probable career field is engineering.
  • Diana Vergun, John Hersey High School (Arlington Heights), is a recipient of the National Merit Purdue University scholarship. Her probable career field is materials engineering.

According to NMSC, officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

This year, 146 colleges and universities are sponsoring more than 3,700 Merit Scholarship awards. Sponsor colleges include 74 private and 72 public institutions located in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
