ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Freddy Eichorn, a student at John Hersey High School, was among 54 musicians from across the country to study at the prestigious Birch Creek Music Performance Center this summer. Located in Door County, Wisconsin, the academy's mission is to provide intensive, performance-based instruction to promising young musicians by immersing them in a professional, mentoring environment.

Eichorn, who plays saxophone, attended the Big Band Jazz I session at Birch Creek, which is celebrating its 50th concert season this year.

Birch Creek supports a student-to-faculty ratio of approximately 2:1, which it says "provides students with an abundance of personal attention from their faculty mentors, who represent top music educators and performers from around the country."
