ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A memorial vigil is planned for Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot earlier this week, Sunday at North School Park in Arlington Heights. The 31-year-old was a native of Arlington Heights. The vigil is scheduled for noon at 307 N. Evergreen Avenue.
Organizers said the vigil is a "peaceful" event, and participants are asked to observe silence or speak softly during reflections.

"I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Charlie Kirk, whose life was senselessly ended earlier today," Arlington Heights Mayor Jim Tinaglia said in a letter to the community. "This loss hits especially close to home as Charlie was born in Arlington Heights and has deep ties to our community. Despite our political differences, there is no place for this type of hatred or violence. We must always remember that we have more in common with one another - than what separates us. My heart goes out to Charlie’s family during this difficult time."
A suspect in the fatal shooting was arrested and in custody Friday, according to state and federal law enforcement officials. Tyler Robinson, 22, of Utah, has been identified as the suspect arrested and accused of killing Kirk.
