Quigley Secures 8th Term In IL 5th District: NYT
U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) won a seat he's had since 2009 after being challenged by Republican Tommy Hanson.

ILLINOIS — U.S. Congressman Mike Quigley (D-IL 5) won reelection Tuesday night in the 5th Congressional District, according to the New York Times. He was facing a familiar opponent. For the fourth time, the Chicago resident squared off with challenger Tommy Hanson for the two-year seat.
Quigley has been a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2009. Hanson, also a resident of Chicago, lost to Quigley in 2008, 2018 and 2020.

Hanson — 33 percent (105,734 votes)
Quigley — 67 percent (214,961 votes)
Illinois Congressional District 5 includes all or parts of Chicago, Inverness, Arlington Heights, Barrington Hills, Des Plaines, Palatine, Mount Prospect, Deer Park, Kildeer, Lake Zurich, Long Grove and North Barrington.

The last time a Republican held the seat was when Michael P. Flanagan was elected in 1994. He served one term.
Prior to being elected to Congress, Quigley served on the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 1998 to 2009.
Quigley is currently the highest ranking Democrat on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development, and expects to serve as Chair if Democrats take the majority in the House of Representatives.
57th District Illinois House of Representatives
Tracy Katz Muhl (D-Northbrook) has won reelection, according to the New York Times. She was appointed to the seat in January following the resignation of Jonathan Carroll. Katz Muhl was set to face Carroll in a primary race, but Carroll then bowed out.
Facing Katz Muhl for the two-year seat Tuesday was Republican challenger Daniel Behr.

Behr — 42 percent
Katz Muhl — 58 percent
"Thank you, 57th District voters," Katz Muhl said in a social media post. "Honored to return to Springfield and work hard for our families."
The 57th District includes parts of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Glencoe, Glenview, Mount Prospect, Northbrook, Northfield, Riverwoods, Wheeling, Wilmette, and Winnetka.

54th District Illinois House of Representatives
Incumbent Mary Beth Canty (D-Arlington Heights) won reelection, according to the New York Times/Associated Press. She faced a challenge from Republican Michele Hunter. Neither candidate had an opponent in April's primaries.

Canty — 58 percent
Hunter — 42 percent
The race marked a rematch between Canty, a former member of the Arlington Heights Village Board, and Hunter, from 2022. District 54 includes Arlington Heights and parts of Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights and Palatine.

53rd District Illinois House of Representatives
Nicolle Grasse (D-Arlington Heights) won Tuesday night, according to New York Times. She squared off on Election Day with Republican Ronald Andermann.

Andermann — 44 percent
Grasse — 56 percent
Grasse, who had been a member of the Arlington Heights Village Board since 2021, stepped into the seat in July to fill Mark Walker's vacated seat of Mark Walker. Walker became a state senator for the 27th District following Ann Gillespie's appointment as acting director of the Department of Insurance by JB Pritzker in April.
"Rain didn't stop the all day encounters and connections with voters, supporters, family and friends," Grasse said in a social media post prior to polls closing. "Your calls, visits, texts and posts have filled my heart and I thank you. We are in this together for each other and for all of us. Thank you."
The 53rd District comprises Arlington Heights, Rolling Meadows and Mount Prospect.
