Krishnamoorthi Projected Winner In IL 8th Congressional District
Democratic incumbent Raja Krishnamoorthi is projected to win a fourth term Tuesday night, facing a challenge from Republican Chris Dargis.

ILLINOIS — Raja Krishnamoorthi is heading back to Washington, D.C. The Schaumburg Democrat held off a challenge from Republican Chris Dargis in Tuesday's general election, and will represent Illinois' 8th Congressional District for a fourth term, according to unofficial results.
"We did it! I am honored to have been re-elected to a fourth term in the United States Congress," Krishnmoorthi said in a social media post. "I'm beyond grateful that the voters of Illinois' 8th District have chosen me to keep fighting for our shared values in Congress. Thank you all for your incredible support."
Since June, Krishnamoorthi and Dargis both hoped they would end up on top in the race for a two-year seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Here's where vote totals stand as of Wednesday, according to New York Times:
- Raja Krishnamoorthi (D): 113,566 votes (56.2 percent) with 100 percent of precincts reporting
- Chris Dargis (R): 88,097 votes (43.7 percent)
Krishnamoorthi has held the two-year seat since 2017, winning elections in 2016, 2018 and 2020. In June, Krishnamoorthi won the Democratic Party's nomination after capturing 71 percent of the vote over challenger Junaid Ahmed.

Dargis, a businessman and retired Naval officer and nuclear engineer, received the Republican nod in June by defeating a field that included four other candidates. He received 32 percent of the vote.
"Thank you to everyone that fought hard for our families and for Illinois with integrity, conviction, and a positive spirit," Dargis said in a social media post Wednesday. "I am incredibly grateful for your prayers and support. Although we fell short this time, let's hold our head high and continue our efforts to give everyone the opportunity to achieve the American Dream."

The congressional district covers parts of Cook County, DuPage County and Kane County. All or parts of Addison, Barrington Hills, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Carpentersville, East Dundee, Elgin, Elk Grove Village, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Lombard, Palatine, Roselle, Schaumburg, South Elgin, Streamwood, Villa Park and Wood Dale are included. The total population of the district is 717,115.
Krishnamoorthi, 48, emigrated with his family to the U.S. from India. He currently serves on the House Oversight Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Krishnamoorthi, of Schaumburg, is also chair of the Oversight Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, and serves as an assistant whip.

In all, 16 districts in Illinois were up for grabs Tuesday. Democrats won 13 of the 16 seats for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
According to the Cook County Clerk's Office, 44 percent of eligible voters in suburban Cook County voted. With all 1,430 precincts in the county reporting, of the 1,648,706 registered voters, 723,269 ballots were cast.
