ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Earlier this week, the Trump Administration announced it is freezing $10 billion in federal funding for child-care and other social services in Illinois and four other Democrat-led states over allegations of fraudulent programming.

State Rep. Nicolle Grasse (D-Arlington Heights), who represents the 53rd District, condemned the move, saying it will hurt working families in the state.

"This administration's decision to unilaterally freeze congressional-approved funding to expand child care access in Illinois is nothing more than an inhumane jab at Illinoisans, simply because we are not his partisan allies," Grasse said.

"Revoking this funding doesn’t punish politicians, it punishes working families who are already being pushed to the brink with this administration’s nonsensical economic policy," Grasse said. "Child care is one of the leading expenses for families, and the loss of funding now means that many families will be priced out of it altogether. Everyone deserves quality child care, not just those who can afford it."

District 53 includes Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Des Plaines, Rolling Meadows, Palatine and Schaumburg.
