Heat-Packing Bar Patron Impersonated Federal Agent, Cops Say
Police say a Hoffman Estates man reportedly pretended to be a federal agent during a fight inside an Arlington Heights bar.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL -- Police charged a 49-year-old Hoffman Estates man last week with falsely impersonating an officer after he reportedly pretended to be a federal agent during a squabble at a local bar.
Paul C. Coy, of the 1500 block of Brittany Lane in Hoffman Estates, faces one count each of false impersonation of an officer, aggravated assault and violating the Illinois Firearm Concealed Carry Act, according to a Chicago Tribune report.
Police say Coy got into an argument with a 51-year-old Mount Prospect man who used to date his current girlfriend. The fight ignited at Somebody's Bar and Grill, 858 N Arthur Ave., where Coy allegedly claimed to be an undercover agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

"Coy, who was dressed in plain clothes, reportedly had a replica of an ATF badge on his belt and a fraudulent ID purporting to be from the ATF," the Chicago Tribune story says.
He also had a 9 mm pistol inside the bar, which violated the parameters of his valid concealed carry license, according to police.
