ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A long-term ramp closure with a posted detour is scheduled to begin next week at the Arlington Heights Road interchange on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90). Illinois Tollway said the toll plaza improvement work will begin Monday and ramp closure will be needed into September.

Electronic message signs and construction signage will be in place in advance to alert drivers to the closure and detour. Up-to-date information will be posted on the Tollway website in the Daily Construction Alert. Illinois Tollway said all work is weather dependent.

The ramp connecting northbound Arlington Heights Road to westbound I-90 will close starting at 6 p.m. Monday and a detour will be posted. The detour will route Arlington Heights Road traffic north to Algonquin Road and south to Illinois Route 53 to access westbound I-90.

According to Illinois Tollway, the extended closures at Arlington Heights Road are needed to accommodate the removal of the existing barrier walls and equipment followed by the installation of new tolling infrastructure. Ramp pavement and shoulder work, as well as electrical, lighting and signage improvements are also scheduled.

Toll plaza work is also planned this fall on the ramps connecting eastbound I-90 to Arlington Heights Road and southbound Arlington Heights Road to westbound I-90. Illinois Tollway said traffic shifts and additional ramp closures and detours will be scheduled as needed to complete the work.

Toll plaza improvement work at the Arlington Heights Road Interchange is scheduled to continue through 2026.
