As National Senior Wellness Month comes to a close, Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights remains committed—today and throughout the year—to encouraging older adults to embrace healthier lifestyles. With a variety of engaging activities designed to inspire seniors to stay active and foster meaningful connections, Lutheran Home continues to celebrate both wellness and the joy of aging.
Located at 800 W. Oakton Street in Arlington Heights, Lutheran Home’s modern, thoughtfully designed campus creates a vibrant environment that promotes whole-person wellness. The community offers assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing, respite stays, outpatient rehabilitation, adult day services, hospice, and home care, ensuring support for seniors with varying needs. A new on-site, specialized Joint and Spine Clinic managed by the Metropolitan Institute of Pain works with the MyRehab rehabilitation program to further enhance physical well-being.
At the heart of the community is Jenny’s Bistro, a cozy café located on-site and open to the public, which offers a delicious selection of fresh grab-and-go items, specialty coffee, and a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Lutheran Home elevates dining into a key component of wellness. Moving away from pre-portioned, pre-packaged meals, restaurant-style dining gives residents freedom and dignity to choose what and when they eat. Menus feature fresh, high-quality ingredients with options ranging from comfort foods to higher-end fare like steak and shrimp. Food is treated as both medicine and joy—supporting health, sparking memories, and creating connection—while every meal reflects dignity, choice, and hospitality.
“National Senior Wellness Month reminds us that healthy aging is not only about managing health, but also about enriching lives with joy, connection, and vitality,” said Jennifer Darnell, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Lutheran Life Communities.

With nearly 55 million Americans aged 65 and older, a number expected to rise to 80 million by 2040, the focus on senior wellness has never been more important. According to the National Council on Aging, 80% of older adults live with at least one chronic condition, and nearly half manage two or more, making proactive wellness habits vital for quality of life. Regular exercise, healthy eating, and strong social connections have been shown to reduce the risk of chronic disease, improve cognitive function, and enhance overall longevity.
“From wellness workshops to community gatherings, our focus at Lutheran Home is providing resources that promote independence, dignity, and quality of life,” said Darnell.
Residents benefit from “therapy from nature,” with scenic walking paths, lush gardens, sunny patios, and a therapy courtyard designed for guided, real-world mobility practice. In addition, Lutheran Home offers:
● Comprehensive wellness programs for emotional, spiritual, and physical wellness
● Intellectual and physical activities and events like yoga, Tai Chi, art classes, and musical performances, and more via the MyVitality program
● On-site outpatient rehabilitation, including physical, occupational, and speech therapies
Lutheran Home also offers a robust life enrichment program, encouraging residents and family members to learn about healthcare and wellness topics.
