Spreads Awareness Of LGBTQ Persecution: Des Plaines Star Student
We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's a local resident who is having an impact in Des Plaines.

DES PLAINES, IL — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Kumar Faliki, who nominated Mohmed (11th Grade) of Des Plaines. Faliki knows Mohmed from Maine East High School.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
He’s a really great friend to everyone around him and treats students and teachers with respect. He’s always there to lend a hand to a student who is in need of help. Uzair is also involved in the community by spreading awareness of LGBTQ persecution and advocating for equal rights for African Americans. Also, he’s very funny and cheers up fellow students when they feel down. We really like it when he does impersonations of the video game character Kratos.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
He’s a really nice guy and we love him to death.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Mohmed!
