Aurora Continues Encouraging Residents To Report Mid-August Storm Damage

The survey will help Aurora staff better understand damage caused by the Aug. 16-18 storms.

AURORA, IL — Nearly two weeks after a severe storm hit Aurora and the surrounding Chicagoland area, the city continues encouraging residents to report damage.

Aurora saw "significant tree damage" after storms blew through the city Aug. 16-18, with residents on the West Side experiencing the most impact. More than 19,000 ComEd customers lost power, and many trees were damaged in wards 4, 5 and 6, Patch reported.

More than 300 requests for service were filed through myAurora 311, and city officials want residents and businesses to continue self-reporting damage.

In an alert Wednesday, Aurora's Emergency Management Agency asked locals to fill out a survey to help staff better understand damages.

"[Responses] may allow City officials to provide justification and pursue additional resources and assistance," the alert said, adding that the survey does not serve as an application for resources. "Both uninsured and underinsured homes and businesses are encouraged to complete this survey."

The survey will be open through 11:59 p.m. Aug. 29.
