Aurora Man, 21, Fatally Shot In Apartment, Acquaintance Charged: Police

The preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred after the two men got into a dispute, according to Aurora police.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man, 44, is facing first-degree murder charges in connection to a June 29 fatal shooting.

Tirom Kirksey, Jr., who was positively identified by the Kane County Coroner's Office, died Sunday evening after he was shot in an apartment in the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue. Nathanael Carire-Aroch is accused of his murder, Aurora police said.

Officers responded at 5:56 p.m. to the apartment and located Kirksey in critical condition, suffering from a gunshot wound. Aurora Fire Department paramedics brought him to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:39 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicated the shooting happened after the two acquaintances got into a dispute, police said.

The coroner's office is currently investigating the cause and manner of his death, and toxicology samples have been collected and sent for further analysis, officials said.

Carire-Aroch was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of armed violence and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. As of 4 p.m. Monday, Carire-Aroch was in custody with the Aurora Police Department as he awaited transportation to the Kendall County jail.
