Aurora Police Investigating Attempted Child Abduction

Police said a woman tried to abduct a 10-year-old girl waiting for a ride in Aurora.

Aurora police are investigating a report of an attempted child abduction that took place Monday morning in west suburban Aurora.

A woman tried to abduct a 10-year-old girl who was waiting for a ride to school in the 1200 block of Marshall Boulevard, police said. The woman approached the girl, grabbed her and threatened her, according to a statement from the Aurora Police Department. The girl, an O'Donnell Elementary School student, told police she was outside her apartment building waiting for her ride to school about 8:10 a.m., according to Aurora police.

When the girl started screaming, the suspect took off running eastbound toward Farnsworth Avenue.

The girl was not injured. She immediately reported the incident to an adult, who took her to school, according to the district.

The woman is described as white, in her 30s, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 110 to 130 pounds, with moles on her forehead and face and a scar under her right eye, according to a statement from police.

She was wearing a black jacket with the hood up, and a multi-colored scarf over her face.

Police will be increasing patrols in the area for the immediate future, according to the statement.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area should call police at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
