City officials said they're "actively collaborating with our federal partners, legislators and other affected cities throughout the country to remain well-informed and to ensure our concerns are acknowledged and addressed at the highest levels of government."
Aurora will hold a special census count to restore key funding after the 2020 Census found that the city's population decreased by about 17,000 people, leading to a loss of $4.3 million per year in revenue, Patch reported.

If the city were to wait until the 2030 Census to recount the population, revenue loss would total $43 million, funding that helps pay for road maintenance, street salt, public safety personnel and special events.
"Aurora remains steadfast in its commitment to account for our city's accurate population and to secure the millions of dollars in funding associated with these efforts," officials said.
