Aurora's 'Biggest Name In Basketball' Returns To Teach Summer Camp

AURORA, IL — An Aurora native and the city's "biggest name in basketball" returned home to teach a new generation of student-athletes.

Ryan Boatright, 30, got together a group of friends and colleagues to coach at his inaugural two-day basketball camp at Waubonsee Community College.

From Aug. 5-6, elementary, middle and high school student-athletes from Aurora and surrounding towns gathered to learn new techniques from the standout East Aurora High School alum.

Boatright, named Mr. Basketball Illinois in 2011, was a standout star for the Tomcats for all four years of his high school career. He went on to play at the University of Connecticut where he helped the Huskies clinch the 2014 NCAA National Championship.

He has since traveled the world playing professionally in Turkey, Spain and France. He currently plays in Russia.

Boatright has plans to turn his camp into an annual summer experience with a larger rollout next year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his national championship win with the University of Connecticut, according to Chief Communications Officer Clayton Muhammad.
