AURORA, IL — Banana Split, a longtime ice cream parlor in Aurora, will keep its season going through the end of October, the business said in a post on Facebook.

The business' last day of the season is set for Nov. 1, giving patrons a month longer than usual to enjoy the classic dessert.

Staff said locals' "love and support throughout this month will play a factor into next year's decision to stay open through October."

With the new change in Banana Split's season also comes a shift in hours of operation. The shop, at 820 Church Road, will begin closing an hour earlier — at 8 p.m. versus the usual 9 p.m. — starting Monday, Oct. 7. On Oct. 12, the parlor will begin offering peppermint flurries and shakes.

Banana Split changed ownership in August when Lisa and Randy Brown, who owned the shop for 41 years, retired and handed off the keys to Daniel Cuevas, of Aurora, The Voice reported.

"I've always dreamed of owning the place, and when I heard the Browns were retiring, I said, 'Hey, I gotta give it a shot!" Cuevas told The Voice. "I'll do anything I can, I'll live in here if I have to, if that means owning the business."
