Bicyclist Was 'Alert And Sitting Up' After Crash With Train: Aurora Police

It was a "very-low speed incident" between a bicyclist and a train, according to Aurora police.

AURORA, IL — A bicyclist and train collided Wednesday morning in a "very low-speed incident" near the Aurora Transportation Center, according to Aurora police.

BNSF Train No. 1224 was departing the Aurora Depot at 6:29 a.m. when it hit a woman who was riding across the tracks while the train was moving, a Metra spokesperson told Patch. The woman attempted to stop her bicycle but told police that her brakes failed.

A resident of Aurora, the woman sustained "only minor injuries and was alert and sitting up" when emergency crews arrived, spokesperson Jim Levicki told Patch. When she was transported to Mercy Hospital, her injuries "were not considered to be life threatening," Metra confirmed.

The Aurora police and fire departments initially responded to assist and secure the scene, but Metra Police is leading the investigation.
