Free Home Internet Security Course Available To Aurora Residents

The City of Aurora is celebrating National Cybersecurity Awareness Month with the free online training workshop.

AURORA, IL — October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and Aurora is celebrating by offering residents a free home internet security workshop.

The Information Technology Department is collaborating with KnowBe4, an internet security awareness training platform, to provide the course, which will be available throughout October.

The workshop is designed to help families make smart, safe decisions online. It goes over how cybercriminals operate and teaches participants how to protect themselves from internet attacks.

To access the course, residents can visit this link and log in with the password "homecourse."

In light of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which was first observed in 2004, the city is also collaborating with the National Cybersecurity Alliance to host a virtual workshop, called "Think You're Hiding On The Internet?," at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

Social media influencer Kristen Sotakoun and National Cybersecurity Alliance Executive Director Lisa Plaggemier are leading the free session that will educate the community on how to avoid being socially engineered with publicly available data. They'll also share tips to help improve internet privacy.
