La Cabana Mexican Cafe In Aurora Closes After 50 Years In Business

Owners said they put the River Street property up for sale "as we are no longer able to keep the business moving forward."

AURORA, IL — After 50 years of business, La Cabana Mexican Cafe permanently closed its doors, owners announced June 22 "with mixed emotions."

The restaurant, located at 835 River St., has been temporarily closed since January after owner Steve Hernandez died. Signed by the Hernandez family, the post said the closure and sale "is the right [decision] for our family at this time."

The property was listed for sale "as we are no longer able to keep the business moving forward."

"We feel honored to have been a part of your lives and we are deeply grateful for the loyalty and support you have shown us throughout the years," the family wrote in a post on Facebook.

Owners received an outpouring of support in the post's more than 200 comments.

"Went there many years with family & friends," one person wrote. "You will be greatly missed. Thanks for the memories. Wish you all the best!"

"We sure have missed you all!" another said. "We loved Lacabana, your family and staff! We will hold you all close to our hearts forever."

"We loved La Cabana when we lived in Oswego," someone wrote. "Our favorite place for Friday night."

"I am sad to read this.... was hoping that somehow it would re-open, but I am thankful that I was able to go one last time," someone else said. "Saying goodbye is never easy. Thank you for the many memories our family has had there over the years."
