Masks Required In Aurora City Buildings, Council Says

AURORA, IL — City officials from Aurora are joining other Chicagoland areas in requiring masks be worn once again in city buildings and courts, officials announced during a City Council meeting Tuesday.

Masking requirements began Wednesday morning and will apply to all employees and visitors, regardless of vaccination status. Previously, City Hall employees and other residents only had to wear a mask if they could not show proof of vaccination.

The announcement comes as the Centers for Disease Control data shows Kane, DuPage, Will and Kendall counties have reached a "substantial transmission" level of COVID-19. Federal guidelines already recommended wearing a mask indoors to slow the spread of the delta variant. Tuesdays announcement added an extra layer of protection.

The new designation means Aurora's counties are seeing 50 to 99 new coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in the last seven days.

City officials reminded residents during the council meeting that City Hall business can also be conducted via phone, email and the city's website.
