New Mayor, 7 Aurora City Council Members Will Be Sworn In
Mayor-Elect John Laesch will assume office as the 60th mayor of Aurora, succeeding two-term Mayor Richard Irvin.

AURORA, IL — Aurora's new mayor and seven City Council members will be sworn in on Tuesday.
Mayor-elect John Laesch will officially take office after the inauguration ceremony, becoming the 60th mayor of Aurora. He succeeds two-term Mayor Richard Irvin, whom he overtook with 52.38 percent of the vote in the April 1 Consolidated Election.
The swearing-in will also mark the beginning of terms for three new alderpersons: Jonathan Nunez in the 4th Ward, Javier Banuelos in the 7th Ward and Alderman-at-Large-Elect Keith Larson.

Several City Council members who have been elected to retain their seats will be sworn in on Tuesday night:
- Ward 1 Alderman Dan Barreiro, serving his first full term after being appointed to the seat last year
- Ward 2 Alderwoman Juany Garza, serving her fifth term
- Ward 9 Alderman Edward Bugg, serving his fourth term
- Ward 10 Alderwoman Shweta Baid, serving her second term
City officials noted that for the first time in Aurora's history, a third of City Council will be comprised of Latino members, including two incumbents and two newly elected alderpersons. At 29, Larson will become the youngest alderman to be elected to serve on City Council.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd.
