Prescription Drug Collection Event Planned In Aurora

Locals will be able to dispose of unwanted, expired or unused medications at the upcoming event.

AURORA, IL — Aurora residents and visitors will have the chance to dispose of unused, unwanted and expired medication on National Drug Take-Back Day this weekend.

The Aurora Police Department is participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration's event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free and anonymous event will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at police headquarters, 1200 E. Indian Trail Road.

"No questions. No ID. Just a safer community," Aurora police said in a post on Facebook.

National Drug Take-Back Day happens twice each year, first in April and again in October. The collection helps prevent medications from being flushed down the toilet and ending up in the local drinking water supply.

  • Pills, tablets and capsules
  • Liquids (sealed in original containers)
  • Vape pens (battery removed)

Marijuana, methamphetamine, needles, syringes, injectables and unsealed liquids will not be accepted. Packages shouldn't contain any personal information.
