Sheriff Ends Monday Night Aurora Standoff Using Armored Truck
Authorities said the armed man barricaded his door, which was later pushed open using an armed SWAT vehicle.
AURORA, IL — Authorities in Kane County on Monday night attended to the scene of a standoff with an armed man in an unincorporated part of Aurora.
The Kane County Sheriff's Office told Kane County Connects the incident began when deputies went to a home in the 800 block of South Kendall to serve a warrant to 50-year-old John W. Emerson.
Emerson came to the door armed with a rifle and pointed it at deputies, authorities said.

“Emerson then retreated into the home and barricaded the front door,” Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain told the county publication. “Deputies also observed a second person in the house when Emerson opened the door.”
The county's SWAT team then arrived and ordered the man to surrender, but he refused and barricaded his door, according to the Kane County Connects. A SWAT armored vehicle was then used to push in the front door and windows to the home.
