Teen Killed In Crash With Semi, Car On Butterfield Road: Aurora Police

The 19-year-old man was extricated from his SUV and brought to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

AURORA, IL — A teenager died after two cars and a semi-truck crashed Wednesday morning on Butterfield Road just east of Hedge Row Drive, Aurora police said.

Officials determined that the 19-year-old man, whose identity has not been released as of Thursday evening, was driving a red Saturn SUV when he collided with a semi around 6:30 a.m.

A third car was also involved, which resulted in significant damage to all three vehicles, according to a news release.

Paramedics transported the driver of the semi and the third vehicle to hospitals, and the Saturn driver was extricated from the car by firefighters before he was brought to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:32 a.m.

The Kane County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

"Our hearts are with the family and friends of the man who lost his life in this tragic crash," Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas said in a statement. "We continue to investigate the factors that led to this collision and urge all drivers to remain vigilant and cautious, especially in rainy or wet weather and when traveling near large trucks. Even a moment's lapse in attention or an unexpected change in road conditions can have devastating consequences."

Portions of Butterfield Road were closed for several hours while investigators documented and processed the crash. The Aurora Emergency Management Agency was notified to help with traffic management.
