BATAVIA, IL — A "critical" infrastructure improvement project tied to the Pulte Asthton Ridge Development in Batavia will require portions of two streets to close for the summer, city officials said.

Beginning May 27, McKee Street and Van Nortwick Avenue will undergo full road reconstruction and a water main replacement, requiring both to close to through traffic until the project is expected to conclude in early August.

McKee Street will be affected from Stonefield Way to Van Nortwick Avenue, and Van Nortwick Avenue will be impacted from Wilson Street to Illinois Avenue.

"These improvements are necessary to enhance long-term roadway integrity and ensure continued water system reliability," city officials said in a news release.

Driveway access will be "maintained whenever possible" during the project, officials said, but temporary restrictions might occur, particularly during curb installation and when work takes place in front of houses. Residents will receive one-to-two-day notice beforehand.

On-street parking restrictions will be relaxed in affected areas. Residents will get specific instructions via door hangers.

The water main installation might temporarily interrupt water service, but residents will be notified in advance whenever possible, officials said.
