3 Downtown Batavia Businesses Receive $10K Grants

A coffee shop, a brewery and a restaurant were each awarded $10,000 grants.

BATAVIA, IL — Three businesses in downtown Batavia each received $10,000 grants from American Express and Main Street America, the Batavia Chamber of Commerce announced.

Limestone Coffee and Tea, 8 W. Wilson St; Sturdy Shelter Brewing, 10 Shumway Ave.; and Sidecar Supper Club, 12 N. River St.; received the Backing Small Business Grant, which launched in 2021.

Since the grant's inception, about 1,180 small business owners have received more than $9 million in funding.

"We are thrilled to not only have one Downtown Batavia business selected for this honor, but three!" Batavia MainStreet Assistant Director Kristen Desler wrote in a statement. "We love seeing small business owners take advantage of grant opportunities — especially when we know how difficult it can be to take the time to do so."

Later this year, the three establishments will have an opportunity to apply for an additional $30,000 enhancement grant that will be awarded to 25 small businesses. New Moon Vegan, a plant-based bakery in downtown Batavia, was one of the recipients of the grant and enhancement last year.
