Batavia Animal Rescue Brings In $13K With Santa Paws Fundraiser
The money will support Starfish Animal Rescue's mission to save pets from high-kill shelters in Kentucky.
BATAVIA, IL — Starfish Animal Rescue in Batavia was forced to rethink its 10th annual Santa Paws fundraiser this year amid the coronavirus pandemic, but that did not stop the event from being a huge success.
The organization raised $13,275 during the weekend event, which featured a bake sale and a raffle of 70 gift baskets made by Starfish volunteers Amy Wisdom, of Geneva, and Kim Walsh, of St. Charles, according to a news release. Starfish also ran a “12 Days of Santa Paws” online raffle.

Volunteers Gary Pocci, of St. Charles, and Chuck Becker, of Darien, made hot dogs and hamburgers for those who bought raffle tickets, the release states.
Starfish Animal Rescue has been based in Plainfield since its founding in 2006. The organization is a licensed nonprofit rescues that transports and cares for animals from high-kill shelters in Kentucky. Starfish Animal Rescue has rescued almost 6,000 over the past 14 years.
