Batavia Animal Rescue To Host 11th Annual 'Santa Paws' Fundraiser

In 2020, Starfish Animal Rescue raised more than $13,000 to go toward saving pets from high-kill shelters in Kentucky.

BATAVIA, IL — "Santa Paws," Starfish Animal Rescue's annual fundraiser, is returning for the 11th year this weekend. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 11-12, the rescue shelter in Batavia is raising money to save pets from high-kill shelters in Kentucky.

During the event, two volunteers — Amy Wisdom, of Geneva, and Kim Walsh, of St. Charles — made more than 70 raffle baskets, which will be featured at the event, taking place at 167 Oswalt Ave. Attendees can also check out the bake sale, get free hot dogs and hamburgers, and participate in a 50/50 raffle during the fundraiser.

In 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization raised more than $13,000 during the weekend event.

Based in Plainfield and founded in 2006, nonprofit Starfish Animal Rescue has rescued more than 6,000 animals, Patch reported.

For people who can't make it to the upcoming in-person event, the organization is also running a 12 Days of Santa Paws online raffle.
