Batavia Police Department Is Hiring Community Service Officers
In the role, a person would be assigned to supplement sworn police officers in enforcing laws and helping in non-criminal-related matters.

BATAVIA, IL — The City of Batavia Police Department is seeking a full-time Community Service Officer (CSO). The Community Service Officer (CSO) is a non-sworn uniformed, unarmed civilian assigned to supplement sworn police officers in the enforcement of city ordinances and assisting the public in non-criminal related matters. Such work involves responding to non-criminal complaints, and enforcing ordinances, and other duties that do not require physical arrest and are not related to crimes in progress.
The following duties and qualifications are examples and not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required as assigned.

- Enforcement of city ordinances
- Assist the public with vehicle lockouts, animal complaints, and non-criminal related matters
- Write tickets, take private property traffic crash reports, assist with traffic control
- Assist with evidence duties and police records responsibilities to include answering non-emergency telephone calls and effectively communicating with customers
- Handle administrative tasks, and other duties not requiring a sworn officer level of training
- Assist with fleet management and communicates with equipment vendors
- Perform responsibilities related to community outreach programs and police station tours
- Provide a variety of reports, logs, and other written correspondence
- Must be a team-player capable of working independently and exercising sound judgment
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to learn and apply city policies and laws
- Position requires LEADS certification/ ability to obtain certification within 6 months of starting
- Maintain inventory of department supplies & equipment
- Manage appointments and fingerprinting citizens
Applicants must possess a high school (or GED) diploma; an associate degree in criminal justice or related field is desirable; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills listed above. Previous experience in law enforcement/security experience preferred. A valid Illinois driver's license is required. A typical schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday, 7:00 A.M – 3:00 P.M. However other hours of work may be required as Batavia PD is a 24-hour, 7 days per week operation. Employees will be expected to work mandatory overtime as assigned. This position reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Administration.
