BATAVIA, IL — Calling all local gardeners: The Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry and Gindo's Spice of Life need your excess peppers for the second iteration of their community hot sauce.

Gindo's — whose shop is located at 2002 W. Main St. in St. Charles — will be collecting peppers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday from Sept. 9 to Oct. 1 to use to create "Fire on the Fox: Volume 2 Hot 2 Handle."

The two organizations first collaborated last year to create "Fire on the Fox." The hot sauce sold out and raised $1,280 for the pantry. This year, proceeds will again benefit the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry.

Gardeners who wish to participate should clean their peppers, package them in ziplock bags, labeled if possible, and drop them off at Gindo's. Freezer-ready peppers — cleaned and de-stemmed — can also be dropped off at the pantry, 431 N. Raddant Road.

The pantry is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday; 8 a.m. to noon and 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; and 8 a.m. to noon Friday. Those in need of assistance can register for a card with the nonprofit to shop the pantry once a month and the clothes closet twice per month.
