Haunted Hike To Bring Safe Scares To Batavia During Pandemic

BATAVIA, IL — Most public events have been canceled for the past seven months, but many organizations have found new ways to safely enjoy at least some Halloween fun this year during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Batavia Park District is set to host its “A Nightmare at West Main” haunted hike from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 16 and Oct. 23, with residents required to register for half-hour time slots to limit group sizes.

Tickets cost $10 each, and children under 10 should not take part, according to an event flyer.

“Evil lurks in the forest, so enter if you dare!” the flyer says.

The Batavia Park District will also be screening “Hocus Pocus” as its Halloween Drive-In Movie. Residents must purchase tickets before the screening, which starts at 7 p.m. Thursday in West Main Community Park. Tickets cost $20 per car, and vehicles will be spaced out.

Batavia residents can also register to participate in the Park District’s Halloween House Decorating Contest on Oct. 21. The organization will award prizes to residents whose homes frighten and delight their neighbors. Registration must be completed by Oct. 19.
