Joi Cuartero, Batavia MainStreet's new executive director, takes the reigns from Britta McKenna, who retired in December.
Despite Tuesday's gray skies and threatening rain, many made it out to the ice cream social held at the Tuesday in honor of Batavia MainStreet’s new executive director, Joi Cuartero.
The Aurora native and current Batavia resident takes the reigns from Britta McKenna, who announced plans in December to step down. Cuartero, who was appointed in February, said she is excited about the new job opportunity.
“Everyone has been so welcoming—I love it,” Cuartero said. “I’m very excited to be here.”

Cuartero comes to Batavia MainStreet from HD Ready, LLC in St. Charles. The Batavia MainStreet Board of Directors selected Cuartero from among 18 applicants.
Cuartero’s passion for the arts led her to become one of the founders of in downtown Batavia. She hopes to be instrumental in making Batavia a more pedestrian-friendly community, as well attract more businesses to the city's downtown.

“I’m excited to get my hands dirty and start working,” she said.
