The average cost for a gallon of gas in Illinois is down 54 cents compared to Thanksgiving time last year.
BATAVIA, IL — If you're among the millions of Americans traveling this Thanksgiving, you may want to prepare ahead of time for sticker prices at the gas station.
At around $3.41 per gallon in Kane County, gas prices were just below the state average, coming in at $3.46 Wednesday, according to AAA. The average cost for a gallon of gas is down 54 cents compared to Thanksgiving time last year.
Nationally, the price per gallon of gas was going for an average of $3.29 Wednesday. Since the price peak for 2023, the national average has either fallen or plateaued for more than 60 days straight, AAA reported.

"Drivers this Thanksgiving can expect cheaper gas prices," Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, said in a statement. "Ten states now have sub $3 a gallon averages, and more will join soon. So savvy drivers will find savings on their way to a turkey dinner this year."
According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in Batavia is selling for $3.29 per gallon at Feece Oil Co., 1700 Hubbard Ave. Here is what other stations around town are charging:
