'Superman' Actress Is Coming To Batavia For Fundraiser

While in Batavia, English actress Sarah Douglas will attend a "Superman II" screening, sign autographs and answer fans' questions.

BATAVIA, IL — An actress famous for her villainous portrayal in the "Superman" movie series is coming to Batavia to help raise money for Batavia United Way and to celebrate Emagine Batavia's one-year anniversary.

Sarah Douglas, who portrayed the Kryptonian supervillain Ursa in the 1978 movie and 1980 sequel, both starring Christopher Reeve. She'll be in town participating in special events Oct. 11-12.

"The SUPERMAN films hold a special place in my heart, and I am absolutely thrilled to join Emagine Theatres for this extraordinary event," Sarah Douglas said in a statement, per a news release from the Batavia Chamber of Commerce. "It's been ages since I've seen SUPERMAN II in a theatre and discovering that it will be showcased on the largest movie screen in the Midwest only adds to the thrill. I can't wait to share this incredible experience with all the fans!"

On Oct. 11, Emagine Batavia, at 550 N. Randall Road, will screen "Superman II" on the Super EMX, the largest movie screen in the state, measuring 96 feet wide and 53 feet tall. The event will include a question-and-answer session with Douglas and a live auction prior to the showing, with a Christopher Reeve autograph, a limited-edition Caped Wonder coffee table book and exclusive collector items.

The Q-and-A will start at about 7:30 p.m. that Friday, and the movie is scheduled to start showing around 8:15 p.m.

The following day, fans can attend a meet-and-greet autograph signing and photo event with Douglas. VIP ticket-holders will meet Douglas from 11 a.m. to noon, and general admission will be open from 1-4 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Batavia United Way, which provides financial security to low-income families, funds to local agencies that combat health-related issues as well as for senior citizen programs and educational and social programs for youth.

"Their commitment, showcased once again through this exciting Superman event, helps us make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families in our community. Tickets to all events can be purchased on the Emagine Batavia website. Admission to the screening cost $30 per person or for a cuddle chair and includes a special edition poster.

The VIP meet-and-greet experience costs $70 and includes an intimate meeting with Douglas, one autograph and one selfie. General admission purchase options include $40 for an autograph, $20 for a selfie and $50 for both.
