CHICAGO — The Beverly Arts Center is pleased to announce a performance by acclaimed Irish singer Kathy Cowan and friends. The show, From Ireland: Songs, Poems, and Stories of Irish Immigrants, will be presented Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 7:30pm, in the Baffes Theatre at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th Street, Chicago, IL 60655. At once a lively concert and an engaging historical journey, this intimate show traces the waves of Irish immigration with music, storytelling and song, starting with the Great Famine and continuing to the present day.

Kathy Cowan is well known to Chicago audiences. She has sung Irish folk songs in performance with Doc Severinsen, toured as a featured artist with The Paul Winter Consort, her band Kiltartan Road, and with Venetia Stifler’s Chicago Dance, Inc. Ms. Cowan has also performed at the Ravinia Festival, at the Smithsonian Institution, the Kennedy Center, and with several national orchestras. Of her singing, Studs Terkel writes, “with her you experience the mist, longing, laughter and all around pleasure of Gaelic song”… Joining Cowan for this performance are master Chicago Irish musicians Kathleen Keane, fiddle and whistle, and Jesse Langen, guitar. Cowan and Keane collaborated to compose an Irish Mass which had its well-received world premiere at the Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann international convention. In-demand guitarist Langen performs in venues throughout Chicago and plays in a variety of styles and with several ensembles.

Beverly Arts Center’s Artistic Director Kevin Pease shared his enthusiasm at having the opportunity to present Cowan. “I first sawKathy Cowan perform at the Baliwick Repertory in a show by Joseph Sobol called, “In the Deep Heart’s Core” which set the poetry of William Butler Yeats to music. When I came to the BAC this past October, Kathy was one of the first artists to whom I reached out. Her power as a musician and as a storyteller is something I know will resonate with the Beverly/Morgan Park/Mt. Greenwood community.”

Tickets for From Ireland: Songs, Poems, and Stories of Irish Immigrants are $30, and are available on the Beverly Arts Center website at www.thebeverlyartscenter.com, by telephone at (773) 445-3838, or by visiting our Box Office at 2407 W. 111th Street, Chicago, IL 60655
