“This is one of my favorite events of the year, as it brings together the 19th Ward community, all in the name of helping children, and providing meaningful activities for our youth within our neighborhood,” Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) and founder of the 19th Ward Youth and Community Foundation. Said in a news release. “Each year, we welcome neighbors of all ages, including new community members, as well as those who have lived here for decades, who come together for a brisk morning to help raise funds for two organizations that do so much for others. It is a great community tradition that so many look forward to every year.”
The 19th Ward and Original Pancake House-Beverly will host a pancake breakfast immediately following the race, at 10:30 a.m. Admission is $5 per person; or $25 for a family.
From its inception, the mission of the John McNicholas Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (Live Like John) has been clear: to bring hope and change to young patients and families affected by pediatric brain tumors. The foundation is dedicated to improving communication and coordination of care between patients, families, and providers; enhancing quality of life for those impacted; and, most importantly, funding targeted research aimed at eradicating pediatric brain tumors. In 2014, the Foundation launched the Live Like John Service and Leadership Institute, an initiative designed to engage high school students who are eager to understand what it truly means to be in service to others and to lead with purpose. Today, more than ever, Live Like John believes in the power of community. Together—with families, supporters, and students—the Foundation continues to inspire, engage, and empower all those who carry John’s legacy of courage, compassion, and action.
The 19th Ward Youth and Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports and hosts a wide variety of safe, healthy, educational youth activities for children in Beverly, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood. All programs are made available at little or no cost to participants and are intended to help children and teens make new friends and stay active in the 19th Ward community. Some events include the Children’s Film Festival, Holiday Dodge Ball Tournament, Summer Movies in the Park, Beverly Hills Turkey Trot, Family Ice Skating Party, Paper Shredding Days, and support to countless community causes.
The Beverly Hills Turkey Trot is sponsored by CIBC.
