Stress management solutions fill the shelves of pharmacies.
Medical experts’ list the obvious to relieve stress - exercise, sleep, yoga, nature walks, etc.
Spending time in a record store is arguably as great a remedy for “what’s buggin’ ya” as anything and the return is the gift of music, which keeps on giving.

“We do have people with incredibly stressful jobs who swing in here after work and just finger walk through the bins,” said Beverly Records owner Jack Dreznes. “It’s not unusual to look through the aisles and see medical professionals in smocks or first responders looking for that special record to spend the evening with.”
The inception of Record Store Day International back in 2007 has inspired a new generation of vinyl lovers while also inviting back to the party the original supporters of hot wax who navigated reel-to-reels, eight tracks and cassettes players before returning to the turntable.

The Renaissance in vinyl has no age limits. Students are again taking a break between classes to browse and workers are escaping the office for a leisurely lunch, a.k.a., a trip to the record store, if only for a short period.
“Brick and mortar record stores have survived,” said Dreznes. “Foot traffic is as brisk as ever. A single visit can mean hearing a new record, finding a turntable, replacing an old college album for that pristine sound.”
Beverly Records, founded in 1967, is celebrating Record Store Day 2025 along with small businesses around the globe. The long-time, family-owned Beverly Record shop has been getting ready for weeks.
Doors open at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 12 for those queued up and ready to buy precious Record Store Day 2025 new releases, re-releases and rare finds categorized for crate diggers of all ages and interests.
Beverly Records claims a vinyl collection in the hundreds of thousands with gently used and new records on display. The store at 11612 South Western Avenue in Chicago will be bustling with activity and house music. The bins are lined with records, vinyl treasures and crates stacked with every musical genre recorded to date. Collector tee shirts celebrating “Where Vinyl Still Lives” are first come, first serve. This year’s tee tagline is “Keeping Vinyl Alive in ’25.”
Beverly Records can find most anything recorded, upon request. In addition, the Dreznes family has the resources to help customers find receivers, turntables, repairmen, karaoke machines rentals or that special 45 that brings tears to a love one’s eyes.
“We're probably one of the few record stores that survived on the South Side and extremely proud of it,” said Dreznes. “We pledge to go out of our way to find the 'hard to find' music, and feel pressure to do that because people who come in for the first time are likely referrals from friends or relatives.”
The store also boasts a classic collection of 45s, many from the "golden era" of rock and roll, which brings in the occasional soul legend or music royalty.
With a projected 500 new vinyl projects being distributed around the world in limited runs, Dreznes will fill special orders based upon “what we get in” and how many of each. Novices, or those just building up their collections, are encouraged to look through the unedited bins for starter package vinyl, replacement records that didn’t survive the 60s, 70s, 80s or just rarities.
