Chicago Police-Involved Shooting In Mt Greenwood Under Investigation

Police tried to deescalate the situation and ordered the male to keep his hands visible when an officer discharged his gun, CPD said.

CHICAGO – A person is in serious condition after being shot during an encounter with Chicago police Thursday afternoon in Mount Greenwood.

Around 3:49 p.m., 22nd District (Morgan Park) officers responded to a person with a gun call at a residence in the 11000 block of South Millard Avenue. The caller told 911 that there people hurst inside the home. When police arrived, a male, age undetermined, was spotted in the window, according to CPD News Affairs.

Officers tried to deescalate the situation and ordered the male to keep his hands visible, police said. During the encounter, an officer discharged his weapon, striking the male. The individual fell to the ground and police rendered medical attention.

The male was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. The officer was taken to an area hospital for observation. The CPD Investigative Response Team is currently investigating.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is conducting a comprehensive use of force investigation with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department.
