Horizon Summer Camp needs Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers who are 16 years old to partner with and assist an adult with a physical disability for a week of camp.
No experience necessary. If you are willing to challenge yourself, develop responsibility, and grow while working together, please consider volunteering for Horizon Camp.
This year's Horizon 33rd Summer Camp program will be held July 14-20, 2024. We are looking to accept about 100 adult camper participants with physical disabilities; without volunteers we cannot accept all the adult campers. Camp is located at Easter Seals Timber Pointe Outdoor Center in Hudson, Illinois on 170 acres of land on Lake Bloomington.
Each adult camper is paired up with an able-bodied volunteer companion. Activities are your normal summer camp activities - arts & crafts, swimming, boating, canoeing, sports, animals to pet and to ride, campfires and the making of new friends. Horizon Camp experience is free to camper and volunteer.

Horizon's Mission statement is to organize individuals with and without disabilities to challenge themselves, develop responsibility and grow through interacting and working together. The vision is to break down the barriers between able-bodied and disabled. Limitations are to be overcome, new abilities are discovered and an increased awareness of self and others.
For the Campers, it's a vacation they look forward to every year. For their families, some needed respite from the daily care of a loved one where they know they will be well taken care of. Experience what I and many call The Best Week of The Year.

For our volunteers, it's an introduction to a community and individuals they don’t usually see up close and personal. For those who show up to volunteer every year - many from hundreds of miles away - it's an oasis from the day-to-day world that you can't get from sitting on the beach.
Who can volunteer and earn 144 service hours?
Must be at least 16 years old. No experience necessary
Assist with a wide range of daily care such as lifting, getting dressed, feeding, and bathing.
