Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run Charged with First-Degree Murder

Jose G. Garcia, 28, of Chicago, is accused of hitting a man in his 30s in Bedford Park last month and driving off, according to Cook County police. The victim died Saturday.

A 28-year-old Chicago man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Bedford Park.

Jose G. Garcia was arrested Saturday at his home in the 6300 block of South Fancisco Avenue by Chicago police, said Cook County Sheriff Thomas Dart. Garcia's arrest comes as the result of an investigation by Cook County Sheriff's police, Bedford Park police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force following the June 13 hit-and-run.

Police said Garcia was charged with first-degree murder after the victim in the crash, a man in his 30s, died Saturday.

Investigators had been searching for an older model Jeep Grand Cherokee since the June crash in the 5800 block of 73rd Street that had, until Saturday, left the man in critical condition.

Garcia is due on Tuesday in a Bridgeview bond court.
